I recommend anyone wants to learn leadership to read John C. Maxwell book (Developing The Leader Within You 2.0). This book is full of useful leadership concepts with many stories and quotes.
The fourth section is talking about an important subject for any leader. The author titled this section with (The Quickest Way to Gain Leadership: Problem Solving). The importance of problems as the author states comes from that problems show us ourselves.
Here are some lessons the author learnt from problems:
- It is the core of our work as leaders to face problems always.
- Our actions might increase the number of problems and their sizes.
The second benefit for problems is that they show others. There are four types of people while dealing with problems:
- People who make the problems worse.
- People who attract problems.
- People who give up while facing the problems.
- People who use the problems as starting point to achieve success.
The last group is the best and it should be part of leaders mindset.
The third benefit for problems is that they provide us opportunities. In order to get these opportunities, the author suggest eight things to follow. One of them is raising questions that help to solve problems such as:
- Who knows more about this problem?
- Who wants to solve this problem?
- Did we gain enough trust to perform the necessary changes?
It is important also to get more than one option in order to select the best solution. More options mean more solutions.
Problem solving is one of the most important task for leaders. It might that they won't solve them by themselves, but they will surely provide the road map and advices for the best solutions and ways to solve problems.
