Episode 32 (Grow and Lead)

One of the main factors for growing and leading is learning from losses. (SOMETIMES YOU WIN...SOMETIMES YOU LEARN) is a great book written by John C. Maxwell that will teach us how to learn from losses. There are 11 factors necessary to learn from losses mentioned in the book.

The fifth factor is (Hope...The motivation for learning). John W. Gardner said: "The first and last leader's responsibility is keep the hope live". Napoleon Bonaparte said: "Leaders are hope merchants". This proves that hope is very important factor in our life.

The importance of hope comes from that it provides the motivation to live and learn. Hope will also provide us with energy. It said that a person can live forty days without food, four days without water, four minutes without air, but he can't live more than four seconds without hope.

Having hope will make the difference. Story of British prime minister Winston Churchill proved that hope played a fatal role in world second war. He said clearly that the most important weapon he had was hope.

How will we get hope? the author suggests three points to achieve that:

1) We should know that hope is an option.

2) We should change our way of thinking.

3) We should win some small achievements.

Hope is power and it is an important factor for success in life beside being a great motivation to learn.

Episode 31 (Grow and Learn)

Leaders and successful people need to pay attention to their losses in order not to affect them negatively. One of the important actions they need to take is to learn from these losses. John C. Maxwell explains in his book (SOMETIMES YOU WIN...SOMETIMES YOU LEARN) the factors needed to learn from losses.

The fourth factor mentioned in the book is (Improvement...The center of learning). Improvement is much related with success. In fact, one of the factors that distinguish successful people from others is improvement.

The author explains the importance of improvement through the following points:

1- Self-improvement is the first step for any other improvements.

If someone is not improving himself, the world will let him behind.

2 - Improvement requires us to go out from our comfort zone.

Fyodor Dostoevsky said: "What people fear the most is taking a new step, or saying a new word they didn't say it before". In order to go out from our comfort zone, we need two things:

a- Treating our aversion of making mistakes.

b- Overcoming a life ruled by emotions.

3- Improvement is not about fast solutions. Instead one should go with continuous improvement that requires:

a- Accepting that improvement is a battel that does not end.

b- Accepting that improvement is a result of small steps.

4- Improvement is a daily commitment

Determination and meditation will help a lot to keep this commitment.

In order to start and keep improvement, the author suggests three things:

1- Take a decision that you deserve to improve.

2- Specify an area to improve in.

3- Look for opportunities to improve after losses.

Learning is an automatic result of improvement, so it is one of the essential things in life.
