Leadership is one of the topics that you can find thousands of articles and hundreds of books about it. It is expected that this number will increase since the since of leadership is developing. One of the useful books is (THE 21 IRREFUTABLE LAWS OF LEADERSHIP) written by John C. Maxwell. It contains a lot of useful advices for leaders.
The thirteenth law is called (The law of the Picture) and it states that People do what they see the leader do.
The important points under this law are the following:
- Successful leaders always pay attention to the fact that they are examples and that others will do as they do.
- Leaders who make the greatest impact are often those who lead well in uncertain situations.
- Just as children watch their parents and copy their behaviors, employees watch and copy their bosses' behaviors.
- Followers can be suspicious of leaders' words, but usually they believe their actions.
- To do the right things is great; however, teaching the right things is greater and much easier.
- As a leader, the first person who I have to lead is myself and the first person who I have to change is myself.
- What employees want most are leaders who act in line with what they say and believe. They want a good example, leading from the front.
This law has great impact on others; therefore, it should be taken care of by leaders.
